CinemaNow Burn-to-DVD to Collaborate with Intel on Viiv

January 8, 2007, 12:44 PM

Scott Fulton, BetaNews: One of the missing elements from Intel's Viiv platform for media center PCs, announced in 2005 and that was one of the major hot points of last year's CES, has been a standard methodology for burning downloaded content to DVD at the console. There's no one way to do it; and while it's nice that PC users have a choice of methodologies, consumers using media centers don't want to think of themselves as "PC users;" they'd like to find the button on the remote that gets the job done, and continue with their lives.

Last Friday, CinemaNow, which operates a download service for legally available content, announced a coalition with Intel that makes it the accepted partner for downloading movies to DVD players in Viiv consoles - the "one way to do things" that Viiv has needed, particularly for this function. Later this year, CinemaNow says, it will be rolling out a Viiv-supported service that enables the burn process to take place entirely by remote, assuming there's a disc in the drive.
