January 8, 2007, 7:03 PM
Tim Conneally, BetaNews: Here's a rundown of the important points regarding TiVo's software for Comcast's DV-R set-top cable boxes:
- TiVo for Comcast current in limited testing, will be rolled out later this year.
- Pricing will be determined by Comcast, but TiVo said it will obtain royalties from Comcast, not end user.
- TiVo software slightly different from standalone TiVo units; guide is more like traditional Comcast software, and features such as KidZone and TiVoToGo will be lacking.
- Wish Lists, Smart Search, Season Passes, TiVo Suggestions, and all other standard DV-R-related features will be available.
- Same software will likely be used for Cox cable customers as well.
- Motorola 6412 set-top box will hold 120 GB of data, but HDTV capacity has not yet been determined by TiVo.
- Video On Demand features of Comcast will be available through the TiVo software with a new VOD interface developed jointly by both companies.
