Sling Media Introduces The SlingCatcher

Ed Oswald, BetaNews: Having conquered “place-shifting” television content, Sling Media is now attempting to do the opposite by bringing Web and PC-based content to the television. Enter the SlingCatcher, which debuted Monday at CES. The initial launch device would include two applications, called SlingProjector and SlingPlayer for TV. Others are planned for later release.
SlingProjector would be the central application for bringing PC-based content to the television. A consumer would be able to wirelessly send any Web site or multimedia format to display on their television. This way, Internet content could be viewed from the comfort of the living room rather than in front of the computer.
The second application actually brings the capability to wirelessly transmit a television signal to another television in the home. To do so, no computer would be needed. This would allow a user to control their DV-R from any television in the home for example, the company says.
Users would be able to download additional functionality as it is added, and even possibly store it through an optional hard drive. The SlingCatcher is expected to be available by the middle of this year at a price point below $200.
